  The Intellectual Dishonesty of Pope Benedict XVI

  the pope is in britain, speaking against atheist extremism.. the leader of the roman catholic church concluded a speech, made before the queen and assembled dignitaries at the palace of holyroodhouse in edinburgh, with the argument that the nazi desire to eradicate god had led to the holocaust and a plea for 21st-century britain to respect its christian foundations.

  ...benedict was more explicit in his condemnation of militant atheism, noting that britain had fought the atheistic evil embodied by adolf hitler.. "even in our own lifetime, we can recall how britain and her leaders stood against a nazi tyranny that wished to eradicate god from society and denied our common humanity to many, especially the jews, who were thought unfit to live," he said.. .

  a little commentary on the pope's dishonesty.

  It is generally accepted that Hitler was a Roman Catholic. The Roman Catholic church never condemned his actions or excommunicated him; whereas Martin Luther was excommunicated for translating the bible into German! Perhaps Hitlers hatred for Jews fitted well with the Roman Catholic belief that Jews were the killer of God and in opposition to their church.

  To equate Atheism with Nazism shows that the Roman Catholic church has misguided views on most things. Others being their misuse of boys, disrespect of women, use of condoms, homosexuality, and the delusion that the Pope has a special hot line to the Christian god.

  The Roman Catholic church has a worse historical record of torture and murder than Hitler and the Nazi party. People who travel in glass pope-mobiles shouldn't throw stones.

  By the way, with humans at a critical point in their existence, needing to make major decisions about fair distribution of resources and prevention of war, among other things, what world altering advice has his god given him to pass on to us?

  His visit to the UK cost our bankrupt country £14,000,000. Money that could have been used to relieve poverty. Would a new chapter updating the ancient bible be too much to ask for? Or is his Holinesses god too busy at the moment?

  Christians: Do you believe Jesus is the only way?

  i was walking around town and a guy on a bike comes up to and shoves a cardboard bum sign in my face with "jesus is the only way" written in classy sharpy marker.. check out this scripture:.

  john 14: 6 - jesus answered, "i am the way and the truth and the life.

  no one comes to the father except through me.. according to this scripture the guy's sharpy message was correct.. do you believe this message?.

  Christians: Do you believe Jesus is the only way?

  i was walking around town and a guy on a bike comes up to and shoves a cardboard bum sign in my face with "jesus is the only way" written in classy sharpy marker.. check out this scripture:.

  no one comes to the father except through me.. according to this scripture the guy's sharpy message was correct.. do you believe this message?.

  For those that find Jesus while alive, there is a special "life after death" before the "life after the life after death",

  for those that don't accept or are introduced to Jesus while alive there is the hope at resurrection.

  This is more complicated than I realized.

  Is this from a part of the bible that is inspired, or is it a personal revelation?

  My Apologies to Christians.

  i have, on occasion, pissed off many or most of the christians on this board.

  i have forthrightly ridiculed you at times, but more often, i have lathered satire, or frothed sarcasm at what appeared to me to be inanely ludicrous viewpoint.. i must apologize, for i have seen the light.. i now understand that all of mankind's' plight can indeed be traced to a day in a perfect garden in iraq.

  an eloquent snake overcame a naked woman with words that rang truer to her than the words of her master and god.

  There seems to be a tendency to think that Christians are a different breed to those who have not adopted Jesus. We are all sensitive people who share the same world and live very similar lives. The greatest difference between people in the western world is their choice of work.

  There are both bigoted Christians and athiests. There there are also kind and generous Christians and athiests. Some Christians have 'loose morals' while while some athiests live very rule driven lives. Our theological perspective need not be a barrier between us and others. I have Christian friends myself and was once befriended by a Hindu family. I spent my early years working for a small company that was almost entirely Mormon and they too befriended me. Nice people but they have yet to wake up and smell the coffee. (not allowed)

  I do not consider myself an atheist. Just someone who having given back my Jehovah t-shirt, has not found a suitable replacement that I can be sure exists. I am not devoid of a spiritual life, its just that it doesn't at present involve a deity. (Now I am waiting for someone to tell me that's what an atheist is)

  The anger I once felt at the way religion affected my life and cost me my family has burnt itself out. Life is too short to carry grudges. If people are nice to me then I don't much care who they pray to, or which Holy book they keep by their bed. As I have said before, I have my own illusions.

  Some people feel a need to adopt a creature that they can direct their love towards. This is why people have pets. Now that the inquisitions are over and the Catholic church has closed its torture chambers, adopting Jesus as a target for love and hope is not a threat to the world.

  If people want to pick out from the bible the nice things the man from Galilee said, and it helps them to be kinder and more considerate of others, so be it. I would like to adopt him myself, but alas, my line of work would cause a conflict of interest.

  i don't think it ever was in my heart, that is why i have found it relatively easy to leave and not be scared of the fear belief system.

  i feel kind of bad for people here who were so immersed that they still get these weird twinges of armageddon fears, etc.

  that has to be difficult to still have that looming feeling.

  AK - Jeff May I suggest that you need to get God out of your head and out of your life.

  Time for us mortals is precious. We are not rehearsing for a life in wonderland. This is the real deal and we will soon return to dust. Until then make sure your limbs are well oiled and you are enjoying the ride. Live every moment as though it may be your last because it soon will be.

  Believers will die with their hopes. I want to die with my memories of a life well spent. How else do we honour the gift if life?

  AGuest I am flatter that you have taken time to dissect my offering in such detail but then you do have eternity at your disposal, while I am a mere mortal who has accepted that my moment in time is limited. You appear to be on a mission and the possibility exists that you missed the point of my post.

  Right now it is 9:30 pm in the UK and I am enjoying a superb bottle of Italian Tempranillo wine and time is on hold. I respect your take on life but alas I am unable to share your faith, or my wine with you.
